Hi Friends. Apologies. Today is a repeat of show 108, because I start a brand new job in a brand new town (Nashville) today…and it’s second shift (2 pm to 11 pm). Starting next week, shows will be prerecorded and produced and played at the regular time. To be part of the show (for now), you can contact me on Facebook, or via email ( at email@example.com ), and I’ll respond to anything and everything on the show.
The good news? Time shifting!!! This means (if I stay on 2nd shift, and expect to for the foreseeable future) all future shows will be prerecorded and programmed to play at normal times…with all new content every week. That’s called “podcasting”…but you all already knew that, right?
Still plenty of news to cover, the entire spectrum of being prepared, and continuing a radio show that I dearly love producing and being a part of.
Today’s Topics? News, Weather Threats, 72 hour kits, power outages, Getting Home (self-recovery), and more … this week’s reminders of what you need to consider in building YOUR survival and preparedness lifestyle…
Survival…what it takes, what you need, and how to become really good at it. Plus, news coverage, phone calls, and more…
Join us!! Call in at (319) 527-6208.
This is LIVE radio, so please call us and be part of today’s SurvivalRing Radio show.
SurvivalRing Radio…we’re gonna make it out alive!!!
Survival. Making it from one day to the next, with every single thing you do…done right. Mindset is the key. Let’s get started on it.
Hi, I’m Rich Fleetwood. As the main host, techie, programmer, and info maniac of Prepping, I will be your guide and confidante to having a better lifestyle. The SurvivalRing Radio show is a 3 hour live call in show, with lots of topics, interviews, news, threat analysis, helpful resources, prizes from contests, and I really hope to kick it up a notch and get some high powered .gov emergency management pros, new authors, prep tool inventors, and survivors with great stories that have been overlooked for so long. I already have a ton of contacts to bring on the air, and I must say, I am fairly excited to have been given this opportunity.
Be sure to catch up with many of my previous shows with James Talmage Stevens, as well as EVERY episode of SurvivalRing Radio, at the one and only https://www.survivalringradio.com website, and at the SurvivalRing Radio Facebook Fan page.
I’ve been a professional radio guy now for 13 years (since early 2004), and I can talk anyone’s ear off on ANYTHING…but I focus on helping people change their lifestyle (however big or small) into a proactive, ready for anything path of freedom, liberty and independence. It takes investment of time and talent, and so many people don’t know where to start.
THAT’s where I come in. I’ve done it, suffered it, lived through it, ran towards it, trained for it, trained others for it, and have a solid handle on the HISTORY of disaster and preparedness, and years of real life experience in emergency preparedness at the personal and community levels. I’ve got two FEMA certifications as well, in Emergency Management, and IS-3:Radiological Emergency Management, and have been a C.E.R.T member since 2005, and a member of the FBI InfraGard program since 2006. I am that invested in helping YOU be ready for anything that can darken your day.
Motivation is the key. GETTING STARTED DOWN THE PATH IS THE SOLUTION.
We all have bad things happen in our life. Either we suffer the worst, and slog through it wanting to give up…or we lower our head, lean a shoulder into the wind (walking just like John Wayne would, wa-haa), and deal with mother nature, dumb humans, and criminal snowflakes who don’t even comprehend what love, caring, compassion, or empathy even mean.
Please join me in this new online audio venture. Got stories to tell, share with me. Got a product, book or gizmo that you KNOW would add prepper goodness to someone’s life, email me. Got recommendation of good resources, or reviews and truths about bad ones, let me know.
Want to join me in creating historic radio content like no one ever has? CALL ME.
I spent more than 3 years teaching students how to go on the air, run the board, turn the mic on, and talk to the world…successfully at a REAL FM radio station. I can teach you too. In total, 13 years of radio experience.
We’ll do breaking news, review hard core, effective and fantastic hands-on talk about everyday tools, such as my Gerber Multi-tool that I’ve had close to 20 years, and it’s STILL going strong.
Lots of life experience to bring to the show. Daring do, and dumb mistakes to maybe bring a tear (of laughter) to your eye. Challenges you can bring to your family and life to grow your skill set.
Change. For You…to become physically and mentally stronger, a bit wiser, better skilled, more educated, and truly effective at anything YOU want to do, be or create.
Change. For me….to be what I am, not be what I say I want to be. Continue on being more successful at any venture, and when dealing with failures, falling back, studying, planning, and re-attacking…until success is mine…and therefore…yours.
I’ll show you how to educate yourself in any topic you want to learn. I’ll give you a thousand ways for YOU to create a product, test it, market it, and sell it online to the world.
Let me take a moment here to share something my good friend Jim Benson, editor in chief of the ORIGINAL magazine that a lot of us old-timers in this genre will remember, The REAL American Survival Guide, which would later become online only at ModernSurvival.net (abandoned some years ago, so DON’T go visit it…it redirects to spam), once wrote about me in an article published in Backwoods Home magazine…
What You Can Do
Given that our government officials have a long way to go in developing a comprehensive Civil Defense program for the US population, despite their laudable efforts toward that end thus far in the wake of the Sept. 11 tragedies, those of us concerned with being better protected will have to do a lot more on our own to provide for ourselves and our loved ones.
The ability to provide this protection begins with knowledge. And the source of the best and most comprehensive knowledge about Civil Defense matters available that I know of today has been assembled by a man named Richard Fleetwood.
He is writing a series of articles on US Civil Defense for my Internet magazine, www.ModernSurvival.net. His first article, “Nuclear Preparedness: The New American Paradigm,” is in the current issue of ModernSurvival.net
Richard Fleetwood is the founder of the SurvivalRing webring, and the SurvivalRing, Civil Defense Now, and The Blast Shelter websites. He is married with three teenaged children and lives in central Wyoming. His background includes 10 years of federal employment, 5 years in the defense electronics industry producing FLIR, laser, and TOW systems, and many years in the computer field. He holds FEMA certificates in Radiological Emergency Management and Emergency Program Management.
Using skills developed in researching things computer, real estate, and technology job related, he spent thousands of hours online, in used bookstores, at flea markets “and any place you could find safety-related material,” and he started studying the entire genre of Civil Defense.
Despite “the billions of dollars spent from the ’50s through the ’80s on nuclear preparedness, Civil Defense, training materials, and more,” Fleetwood said, “there was precious little information on more than the very basic things on the Web.”
This US Civil Defense work from the Cold War period was intended to help farmers deal with radioactive fallout from a nuclear attack. It’s a good example of the extent of the efforts the US government made to protect the citizenry in those days.
Having collected over 200 unique and rare original Office of Civil Defense documents, manuals, training books, pamphlets, and other related materials over the past couple of years using Ebay, used book stores and searches, donations and loans from individuals around the country, he is slowly getting these rare sources of information scanned in and online on his websites. He has also compiled over 1.5 gigabytes of digitized documents from FEMA, the Red Cross, various Civil Defense organizations, military field manuals, and emergency management organizations nationwide, and is preparing a collection of this set of information for the world.
He has also made contacts with multiple international Civil Defense organizations and received hundreds of pages of English language documents from Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, the UK and Canada, and was at this writing awaiting packages from Singapore and Norway with more of the same.
His goal is to create the single largest online and offline source of worldwide Civil Defense documentation, training, and historical archiving for any and all future uses of those needing this information.
To Richard Fleetwood, Civil Defense is the same as “citizen preparedness.”
“It is up to each and every one of us in this nation to be prepared when a disaster strikes either directly or nearby, so that we do not burden others, and are able and available to assist those who do suffer the worst,” Fleetwood said. “There are many other areas of Civil Defense that connect completely with the theme of citizen preparedness, such as the skills of threat assessment, national security knowledge, neighborhood watch programs, crime prevention, and so forth.”
He uses his spare time and research skills to maintain his SurvivalRing website, one of the leading preparedness information websites in the world. Since his current big project is to collect as many original Civil Defense documents as possible from both domestic and international agencies, as well as individual collectors who wish to help with this project, to create the world’s largest online archive of this life-saving material, which he calls, “Civil Defense Now,” please contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have original Civil Defense documents of any kind or age to share.
The article this quote came from is “It’s time for a revival of American civil defense“, by Jim Benson, published January, 2002, on http://www.backwoodshome.com/, exactly 15 years ago. What he had to say about me then, still rings true now, and in many ways, even more so. The 200 titles has now grown to 25,000. The 1.5 gigs of data is now well over 30 gigs….and both numbers are going to continue to grow….that I can promise.
Given this long term investment in the reality of Survival for all Americans, I’ll give you my honest to God gut reaction to news of the day, the latest survival crap that hundreds of prepper sites are selling as the best thing since sliced bread, and show you the quality that all these play toys are really like, and why to save your money for something that will do the exact same thing but last you a lifetime.
I’m a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional, and multi-talented geek, who can code, hack, program, and research with the best of them…and I am also an award winning videographer who is going to bring you SurvivalRing TV as a YouTube channel.
Warning…I’ve got a face for radio…you’ve already seen enough of it.
Commercials for your products, audio/video/interviews…name your poison…I’ll create, produce and master it for you.
I’m going to be killing it in the coming year. The last 15 years were all about education, practice and real world perspective, and the voice and knowledge to SHARE it.
My Real World…for now
2017 will be the year SurvivalRing Media changes the world. 8 years of working in a prison, running a farm, training wild mustangs, tracking up to 75 felons, every hour of every workday, and tracking the production, costs, schedules, and man power to make it all work, is the kind of EXPERIENCE that will help you create your very own home homestead, functioning garden, repair or create any tool you need to make it all work, and point you to the best free sources on the internet to become the NEW version of you…more confident, more successful, and more powerful than you ever thought you’d become.
Who else in the realm of preparedness and survival can say that?
And yes, because of my background, I am VERY supportive of all facets of law and order. I know what you need to do, and what you need to step away from. Been there, done that.
Let me know if you’d be interesting in joining me. If you’re sick of unrealistic reality shows that completely miss the point of personal and family proactive preparedness lifestyle, such as Doomsday Preppers, Dual Survival, and all those other shows created in the past five years to literally make millions selling fear, well look no further.
I’m going to be giving away solutions, motivation, history, and facts, backed up by the single largest repository of authentic GOVERNMENT created, and tax payer funded, Survival Research, that has EVER been online.
So there. I am going to change the face, style, and method of what being prepared is all about.
No sensationalism. No Outrageous claims. No Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda. No scripted and/or fake reality shows. No Fear-mongering. No Scare Tactics. No SELLING. Yes, I have a real world product, but no, it will not be mentioned with every other word. INFORMATION is the key, and on MY website, you can download all of it for FREE.
Facts…Just the facts.
Everything SurvivalRing.org offers for free download (which is tens of thousands of individual files), is also available on the SurvivalCD.com library consisting of 14 CD/DVD disks, currently getting a face lift and upgrade. Instead of just optical disks, how about thumb drives, SD Ram chips, Micro SD ram chips, a single BluRay data disk, and ONE TERABYTE pocket drives, plus any package of any of those you want. This spring, it comes ALIVE for purchase. Stay tuned for that.
So, bottom line? SurvivalRing Radio. We’re going to make it out ALIVE…
ABOUT RICH FLEETWOOD
1st and foremost, I am a lifetime prepper, spending most of my youth building a myriad of things, like models, flying planes and model rockets, creating custom bicycles, and and fixing, repairing, or creating outdoor gear. Re-use, rebuild, recycle, renew, re-do. Making the best of things, with whatever I had, to make whatever I needed. You can call me a “Maker”. Look it up…it’s really a thing.
I hunted and fished all over north east Texas, going on family camping trips every year, exploring parts of the west Texas desert with my dad and uncle, such as Hueco Tanks, the pine forests of East Texas in the Davy Crockett National Forest, the Blue River and Devil’s Den areas of southern Oklahoma and fishing many large man-made reservoirs in Texas such as Cedar Creek, Lake Texoma, Lake Ray Hubbard, Lake Amistad, and many smaller lakes, ponds and rivers.
Built custom fishing rods, learned how to tie my own fishing flies for bass, trout, and saltwater prey, and a lot of bass lures that worked really well on catching lunkers everywhere. Yes, I spent time trying out my wilderness skills in the woods of north Texas, crafting wooden hooks to catch catfish in ponds and streams (more than once), hunting family property southwest of Bonham, Texas for dove, quail, squirrels, rabbits, and in the winter time, duck and geese landing on our small pond. While not a perfect time of my life, the outdoors became a major fixture to everything else I have done since. Nothing better for the soul then the smell of the forest after a spring rain, the sounds of a lake or stream while fishing, or anything you can find in the middle of the Rockies year round.
I even got my scuba certification at age 18 to really get into what “fishing structure” was, and that was exciting, opening new doors to my outdoor explorations. My goal in high school was to graduate and go into the military but a motorcycle wreck and broken leg and knee my sophomore year killed that option, even after 4 years in Army JROTC.
Instead, I went into manufacturing, first plastic extrusion, then custom vehicles, followed by defense electronics (FLIR, LASER, TOW missile controls, and other platforms and systems), and then moved into computers, running VAX mainframe systems in the late 80s. A year in commercial real estate appraisal as a researcher, and then 10 years as a city letter carrier and federal employee.
Retired from that after 3 more knee surgeries, and moved away from Alabama storms of dozens of tornadoes, 2 hurricanes, and more, to Wyoming Winters, in a trucking venture that went bust.
After almost three years as GM of a McDonald’s restaurant, a family decision led me to return to college at age 43, with my wife and three college age off spring, and between us we earned 9 degrees.
The last 8 and a half years have been working in Corrections/Law Enforcement for the State of Wyoming, as an administrator for the Ag program at our facility, training wild mustangs, running a 600 head beef operation, and growing all the feed needed for both herds.
I’ve now relocated to Nashville, Tennessee to being a new career…in cutting edge technology…for some lucky company. Yes, I moved 1700 miles without a job lined up. Why? Better opportunities, better pay, better quality of life, and getting my family together again after many years of playing catch-up. In just THREE WEEKS, I went from a employee of the State of Wyoming, to a job that I’ll share with you next week…and it’s right up my alley. COMPUTERS!!!! Yeah, that old skill, started in 1983, comes back to provide me a nice living in an amazing town, in a great time to be an American. Details next show.
With 5 grand kids now, it’s time to semi-retire from the corporate and government world and help raise my grand kids and use my creative juices (and degrees) to enable a much wider (and milder) flavor of Preparedness. That is where SurvivalRing Radio was born. Catch up weekly with a born geek, survival guru, prepper, motor head, and philosopher. I am what you will learn to understand as a “thought leader” in the realm of preparedness. I’m also an early adopter of new ideas, tools, software, and gadgets, and have been for over 30 years.
Yes, trial and error is a GREAT teacher in all areas of life. Call it beta testing, if nothing else. I only have to staple my thumb to a workbench with an air powered stapler ONCE, to know that IT HURTS.
Never did it again. Lots of life experience like that, and I’ll share those stories with you, only on SurvivalRing Radio.
Critical Preparedness Radio has morphed into SurvivalRing Radio…here’s why…
As of the first of 2017, Critical Preparedness Resources Talk Radio became SurvivalRing Radio, as James Talmage Stevens retired from the radio spotlight, to begin consulting again, backing away from the prepper world, radio shows, and begins his ACTUAL retirement, after his 43 year journey of publishing Making The Best of Basics (which you can still buy at his website), the single bestselling book on the most basics of being prepared, having sold over 860,000 copies during that time.
James, thank you…for all that you’ve done for hundreds of thousands of readers, millions of listeners, and more importantly, always caring enough to give anything you did for prepping, all you had. Most importantly, thanks for letting me join you as your radio co-host, traveling down a path both old, and new, to me. I will be more than happy to continue the legacy you started, using radio as the medium towards helping folks prepare for everything coming their way. Enjoy your vacation over the coming months and years.
